Abstract: | A design of compact probe-fed wideband dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is presented for X-band applications. The arrangement consists of a rectangular DRA excited by a probe feed connected to a metal patch. The device is mounted on a small ground plane and has an overall compact size of 7 x 13 x 10.75 mm3. The bandwidth is enhanced by using a patch excitation from one side of the DRA. The impedance matching is improved by using a flattened center core of coaxial probe with a rectangular shape, rather than the standard cylindrical probe. The proposed DRA offers a fractional bandwidth of 57.8% around the center frequency 11.25 GHz and high radiation efficiency of more than 97%. |
