dc.description.abstractThe research in this thesis describes the development and use of assays to detect cellular immune responses in ducks with application to duck hepatitis B virus (DHBV) infections. This animal model is used to provide an additional area of research which complements the study of hepadnaviruses. The introduction contains an outline of the significance of hepadnavirus research, including hepatitis B virus (HBV) epidemiology, structure, replication and clinical manifestations of the diseases caused by the virus.en
