Abstract: | While rumours and epidemics are popularly regarded as similar, it has long been known that there are important differences between the mathematical models for them. We show that both, along with a type of two-rumour model, can be subsumed under a general class of transient processes whose time-dependent evolution can be characterized exactly. |
