Abstract: Our understanding of small intestinal motor activity and its control pathways has advanced despite the limitations of measurement techniques and the complexities and interactive nature of small intestinal control pathways. Recent studies have used molecular biology techniques in addition to more conventional methodologies to provide new insights into the field. This review summarizes developments in this area in the past 12 months.
