Abstract: The 2D problem of a crack opened by a rigid inclusion and subject to remote compressive stresses is formulated in terms of the distributed dislocation density. The condition of smooth tangency at the crack tips is used to determine the equilibrium crack length. Numerical results for the equilibrium crack length and the crack opening displacement are calculated using the Gauss- Chebyshev quadrature method. The solution represents the residual opening of a partially filled hydraulic fracture.
