Abstract: | We examine the proposal that the value of the first moment of the spin structure function of the proton g1p(x, Q2) found by the EMC is explained through QCD evolution, taking into consideration the effect of the anomaly. We conclude that this is unlikely to be the complete explanation as we find that the accurate prediction of the first moment implies a distribution g1p(x, Q2) that does not agree with the data. It does not seem to be possible to fit both the shape of g1p(x, Q2) and its first moment simultaneously in such a picture. |
