Abstract

Raewyn Connell is one of Australia’s leading sociologists. Her latest book, Confronting Equality: Gender, Knowledge and Global Change, serves as a reminder of why this is so. The book showcases the diverse, yet connected, research interests that have engaged Connell throughout her impressive intellectual career. In this regard the book has much to offer as it reproduces the breadth of her research expertise in a concise, accessible volume. Separate chapters address key issues of contention in global equality debates, including men’s place in gender equality struggles, the limitations for realizing class equality where education systems are modelled on market transactions and the need to realize sociology as a genuinely global endeavour.
