Abstract
The term deprescribing first appeared in the English medical literature in 20031; however, use of the term did not catch on widely until about 2016 and it has had an exponential rise in use in academia since then. Deprescribing is the process of withdrawal of medications where the harms outweigh the benefits (in the individual), supervised by a healthcare professional.
