Abstract

Our group has developed two diverse radar sensors with practical applications: an imaging radar at 94 GHz for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) take-off and landing and a radar based termite detector at 24 GHz. These two sensors operate in vastly different environments. One relies on the weak radar returns from ground clutter to form a high fidelity image. The other detects the movement of termites hidden inside building materials at extremely short distances. Currently, our approach is moving away from classical radar towards Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) radar. This paper presents the sensor implementations and recent results. The aircraft radar is still a demonstration system, whilst the termite detector is a mature product.
