Abstract

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) commissioned this independent literature review to provide assurance that the revision of the Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare is grounded in the most up-to-date and relevant scientific evidence. The purpose of this literature review was to identify the current epidemiology of norovirus infection and transmission of disease within healthcare setting including acute care, aged care, paediatric, neonatal and rehabilitation settings. In addition, this literature review examined the available evidence on transmission based precautions methods and infection control measures. The literature review contributed to developing Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare (2019).
