| dc.description.abstract | Things persist when they exist through time. Understanding persistence requires a framework for thinking about how objects are located in time (and space), ideally a framework that is compatible with what modern physics has told us about the structure of spacetime. A suitably ecumenical framework does not settle the question of how objects persist, but permits precise formulations of the principal views in the literature, perdurance and endurance (including two possible varieties of the latter). The key philosophical question that remains is which of these models of persistence best explains our evidence and accommodates tricky cases, including a variety of puzzles about coincidence, change, and vagueness in persistence. | |
