Abstract

This paper presents a transmissive focusing metasurface exhibiting frequency-dependent focal lengths that can be used for terahertz 3D imaging. The metasurface is formed by a typical tri-layer unit cell structure, and it achieves a broadband chromatic aberration that provides an extended focal range. The focusing performance of the metasurface is numerically investigated and experimentally confirmed. Moreover, its capability in terahertz 3D imaging is experimentally demonstrated by reading text contents on layered papers. Potential applications include in-situ inspection and biomedical diagnosis.
