Abstract

Recently, justice tourism and justice in tourism have been proposed as a means to contribute to more equitable, ethical and responsible forms of tourism in travel destinations. Demand for justice tourism has emerged from the concerns of communities and tourism scholars about the negative impacts of tourism that are forced on host communities, tourism workers and marginalized groups while the large domestic or international corporations operating in tourism benefit more from tourism earnings and opportunities (Higgins-Desbiolles, 2018; Jamal, 2019; Scheyvens, 2002). Several scholars (e.g., Dangi, 2018; Higgins-Desbiolles, 2008; Jamal, 2019) have argued that failure to incorporate the elements of justice in the mechanisms of tourism system governance and collaborations has led to many travel destinations around the world facing challenges to destination sustainability.
