Abstract
There is an increasing interest in the establishment of renewable energy infrastructure in Australia, and indeed worldwide. The opportunity to estimate ways to economically exploit this natural resource requires the availability of appropriate weather data. The evaluation of the performance of a system that is susceptible to the influence of climatic variables can be achieved by various methods. The system can be erected in situ, tested for its efcacy and adjusted. Laboratory models can be constructed and testing performed under artificial conditions. One of the most effective evaluation techniques is the construction of mathematical models of the performance of the system. When performing the evaluation, the climatic inputs to the model must represent the climate in which the system will be installed.
