Abstract

This paper reports on the development of a 3D solver for Maxwell's equations based on the Finite-Volume Time-Domain (FVTD) method. The primary goal of this work is the modeling of microwave antennas with complex geometries, i.e. with curved or oblique surfaces, and/or very fine structural details. After a brief description of the main features of the developed FVTD algorithm, the computation of the far-field radiation pattern of a horn antenna is presented as a validation example. The results obtained with the FVTD method are compared to those of a commercial field simulation tool and to patterns computed with closed-form approximations.
