Abstract
By studying the time-domain reflection of T-ray radiation from a stratified media, useful spectroscopic information can be extracted which leads to establishing a method for determining layer thickness in a multi-layer system including those in biomedical environment. We have formulated a numerical model of THz pulse propagation and reflection through a stratified multilayer system. By monitoring the energy of the reflected pulse, we have demonstrated that there are resonance conditions for which the reflected pulse energies are a maximum. It is also shown that at resonance the reflected pulse has a minimum distortion in the time domain. The resonance condition depends on the optical properties and the thicknesses of the layers. Based on these findings, we propose to a new approach using these resonance conditions as means to measure the thickness of layers in a multi layer system.
