Abstract

An innovative method is presented which simplifies the formal solution of the differential equations describing heat transfer in domestic dwellings. The method described here utilises Duhamel's theorem and methods for solving Volterra integro-differential equations under certain conditions to develop the analytic solution to these differential equations. Previous work by the author on the level of complexity of weather data needed for simulation of a building's thermal performance permits the use of this methodology. © 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd.
