Abstract

Through a consideration of five scenarios, this article explores the nature and consequences of rule breaking behaviour in Massive Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs). It considers the effectiveness of a range of governance mechanisms and, in particular, the limitations of End User Licence Agreements. It concludes that the concept of legal pluralism provides a useful model for exploring and understanding the legal needs of MMOG players and administrators.
