Abstract
This chapter commences with a status report on health professions educational research generally and then quickly focuses on simulation. Although educational research features here, this does not diminish the importance of other types of healthcare simulation research. The chapter then explores the activities of professional societies and special interest groups in setting research agendas, hosting research summits, establishing research networks and supporting peer-reviewed journals focused on the dissemination of healthcare simulation practice and outcomes. Brief reference is made to the need for properly funded healthcare simulation research.
