Abstract
Traditional contact blood pressure (BP) measurement is restrictive and uncomfortable for the patients. Remote sensing with imaging photoplethysmography (iPPG), in contrast, allows for easy, nonrestrictive, contactless and cost- effective extracting of blood pressure. This study presents a new system for remote contactless BP measurement based on the detection of iPPG properties produced in human skin using a digital camera. The proposed BP system extracts the optical properties of iPPG signals obtained from two regions of interest in the forehead. A signal decomposition technique called a complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition (CEEMD) technique was used to extract the BP- related features of iPPG signals. Based on the results from 30 videos acquired from 10 subjects with different ages and skin tones, the performance of the proposed BP system was evaluated and compared using a reference device with promising results. We believe that this study can be very instrumental in the next generation of the monitoring and healthcare system.
