Lawrence, K.2025-12-172025-12-172011https://hdl.handle.net/1959.8/135895This participatory and performance-based textiles practice research used string, physically and metaphorically, to create webs of connection between people. Acknowledging the deep cultural connections between story and string, it questioned how an ordinary material – string – could elicit personal narratives that might help an individual navigate their place in the world. The ongoing project, begun at the Adelaide Festival of Arts (AFA), and performed during ‘Garlands of String’ (2011), continues at sites across Australia. In A garland for a friend, the gift of a button string from artist to friend was reciprocated with an image and story of connection from the recipient’s life.enCopyright 2012 Kay Lawrencecontemporary artvisual artAustralian artPoolCreative work
