The abnormal growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterus often results in chronic pelvic pain, dysmenorrhoea, dyspareunia, fatigue and infertility. Several theories attempt to explain the aetiology of endometriosis, but its exact origin remains incomplete. Treatments aid in supressing symptoms but no cure is currently available. Endometriosis has significant psychosocial impact on women, leaving them susceptible to poor mental health and reduced quality of life. This review will explore the aetiology, symptoms and treatments for endometriosis, and discuss the impact of endometriosis on the psychosocial wellbeing of affected women.Masters; Psychology; HealthThesis
