Using Australian hospital administrative data of heart disease patients, we found that those who used a mixture of private and public care had the highest total hospital utilization. Our findings are robust to how utilization is measured and endogeneity between utilization and hospital type choice.en© 2013 Taylor & FrancisHospital utilization; health care; public and private system; Australian hospitalHospital utilization in mixed public-private system: evidence from Australian hospital dataJournal article003002248110.1080/00036846.2013.8543070003301651000072-s2.0-84893203321172417
