Abstract: The original chapter in this book by Kim, Dansereau, and Kim (2002) provided an extension of the concept of charismatic leadership as viewed by Bass. In this addendum, we briefly discuss the results from five studies of charisma and show how the studies extended charismatic and transformational leadership. Studies 1 and 2 suggest that a crisis situation may enhance the acceptance of a charismatic leader by individuals with low self-esteem, whereas an opportunistic noncrisis situation seems more conducive to acceptance by individuals with high selfesteem. Studies 3 and 4 suggest that active feedback seeking and the establishment of perceptions of justice may enhance (mediate) the link between charisma and performance. Study 5 focuses on the role of political skill and charisma. All of these studies were undertaken in an attempt to extend the concept of charisma.
