Abstract: The CANGAROO-III project, which consists of an array of four 10-m atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes for gamma-ray astrophysics, started in 1999 in Woomera, South Australia. The first 10-m telescope has been in operation since 2000, and stereoscopic observations with the first and second telescopes started in 2002. The full array will be operational in 2003. Here we report on the status of the CANGAROO-III project including the results of observations with the first telescope. © 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
