Abstract: This publication displays the results of the “Bethlehem Area Conservation and Management Plan” (BACMP), a project funded by the Government of Italy and implemented by the UNESCO Ramallah Office between 2006 and 2010, in cooperation with the Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation – Bethlehem (CCHP) and in close consultation with Palestinian authorities, notably the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Ministry of Local Government, the Governorate of Bethlehem, the Municipalities of Bethlehem, Beit Jala and Beit Sahour, as well as the local communities of the concerned Historic Towns and their representatives. The purpose of the Plan is to preserve the cultural, historical and environmental assets within the municipalities of Bethlehem, Beit Jala and Beit Sahour. The Plan addresses the capacity development of local authorities, professionals and communities in conservation planning, urban sociology and land management related fields through a participative planning process aimed at increasing public awareness on cultural heritage protection.
