Abstract

Christine Macgregor was a South Australian who amassed a collection of nearly 5,000 books, all of which (except one) she bequeathed to the Barr Smith Library. Among these books are a few hundred volumes which exemplify the spirit of William Morris’s ’ideal book’ and the history of the Private Press Movement; they also comprise a significant legacy to our state. This talk will addresses the questions: Who was Christine Macgregor? What, indeed, is the significance of her legacy? Maureen Prichard gained her PhD from the University of South Australia with her thesis Such Endless Pleasure: The Illustrated Private Press Books of Christine Margaret Macgregor.
