Abstract

Beam scanning from planar low-profile antennas is presented. Leaky-wave antennas (LWAs) are simple, offer beam scanning inherently with a frequency sweep. They can be a promising candidate for systems require beam scanning facilities, e.g. frequency scanning radars. Uniform LWAs generally have a single operating band with beam scanning in the forward direction only, mainly a region within near broadside and near endfire; limiting their application. In this paper, methods are discussed to achieve multiband operation from simple planar LWA structure and beam scanning in both forward and backward direction. Results of two antenna structures are presented here to show the performance of the low-profile multiband LWAs.
