Abstract
Stem cell-based therapies are emerging as a potent new approach to treat a variety of diseases. This chapter is focused on the application and potential of plasma-assisted material modification in stem cells culture substrates and therapies. The effect of substrate chemical and physical properties achieved using plasma-coating methods on the fate of stem cells is reviewed. In particular, plasma-assisted methods to produce tailored surface chemistries, controlled topography and stiffness, surface gradient substrates, and modify 3D structures are explained together with their significance in addressing challenges faced in conventional stem cell culture.
