The Defence Science and Technology Organisation conducted the Mission Success Prediction Capability project using model-based systems engineering technique to provide insight into mission planning within the Australian Defence Force and to identify a range of possible enhancements. This paper explores how the system knowledge captured through the MBSE process could assist Defence decision makers in selecting such enhancements. Each enhancement is considered as an investment into the capabilty. A method is proposed to calculate the net benefit and cost of each potential investment. This information could be used in a manner akin to ROI (return on investment) to assist the selection of the optimal investment or investments for further study and development.
