Abstract

The dynamic wetting and dewetting behaviour of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), studied by the Wilhelmy technique, is briefly reviewed. Slow relaxation effects were observed for PET surfaces. Equilibrium is achieved by an evaporative process in the case of advancing contact angles. The molecular-kinetic theory describes the contact angle-velocity dependence more adequately than the hydrodynamic theory in the case of forced spreading.
