Abstract

The recently emerging ‘digital’ era has created many operational challenges for firms. Several previous studies emphasise that developing disruptive business models could be considered a suitable alternative to compete in the digital environments. Thus, this study examines key previous literature in disruptive business model and its related influential concepts. It attempts to devise a conceptual disruptive business model for digital businesses. The disruptive business model is devised through value-based and value-network perspectives. Simultaneously considering the context of emerging economies, the study provides the model based on five key components. The model is exploratory and hence further empirical works are called for in order to confirm its generalisability and the benefits of employing it for related future studies.
