Abstract
The present experiment was designed to test if a single session of mindfulness meditation enhances memory of a newly acquired motor skill. The results illustrate that previous meditation training is not necessary to enhance motor memory with post-practice meditation. Specifically, in participants with no prior meditation experience, a single session of meditation promoted motor skill performance improvement over a wakeful period involving no additional practice. However, there was no apparent benefit of post-practice meditation for further performance gains when the motor skill was tested again after period consisting of sleep. This research adds to a growing body of empirical evidence that supports mindfulness meditation as an effective strategy for augmenting motor skill learning.
