Abstract

BreastScreen Australia was established in 1991 and is recognised as one of the most comprehensive population-based screening programs worldwide. The program’s robust accreditation processes, program governance structure and committed employees and stakeholders support its continual quality improvement for the benefit of women nationally. The new BreastScreen Australia accreditation system was implemented on 1 January 2017. In 2018, the Rosemary Bryant AO Research Centre at the University of South Australia was contracted by the Commonwealth Government Department of Health to undertake a post-commencement evaluation of the effectiveness of implementation and performance of the new accreditation system.
