Abstract

If soft power is the deployment of cultural resources – ideas, values, and identities as well as global brands and pop cultural icons – to inspire admiration and affection, Asia’s growing soft power is initially impressive. This is especially so considering the region’s past associations with post-colonial instability and conflict, political authoritarianism, self-protective models of national development, and cheap, poorly-made copies of more highly desired products.
