Undrained monotonic triaxial extension tests were performed on Sydney sand with fines (up to 20%) to examine and characterize different mechanical behaviors. Equivalent granular void ratio was used to synthesize test results. Test results show that soil manifested three forms of behaviors: flow, limited flow, and nonflow. Further, test results also show that static instability and steady state behaviors can be correlated with equivalent granular void ratio.
