Abstract

Based on CI combustion theory, higher combustion efficiency can be achieved with HVFs when the fuel is injected into higher in cylinder air turbulence to increase the air-fuel mixing. By comparing between the methods used by worldwide researchers as mentioned earlier and CI engine combustion theory, it is found that the effect of in-cylinder airflow characteristics are not studied yet in order to solve or reduce this problem. Due to this gap, this research attempted to study the effect of airflow characteristics to the performance and emissions of CI engine run with HVF. This research used guide vanes (named as guide vane swirl and tumble device, GVSTD) installed in front of the intake manifold to generate a rotational airflow so that it can increase the in-cylinder turbulent airflow.
