Abstract
The Paratoo diapir is irregularly exposed along the axis of a breached doubly plunging anticline. It consists of generally coarse grained carbonate and brecciated sediments. The age and source of the diapiric material is unknown. Dolerite intruded the diapir probably during a late stage of folding and diapirism. Stratabound sulphide mineralization occurs against the margin of the diapir in siltstones of the Adelaide System, and disseminated sulphides occur in the diapiric breccia. The grade of mineralization is too low to exploit but the environment probably represents a favourable type locality for further mineral exploration.
The diapir was probably emplaced by differential basement movements in a plastic or brecciated carbonate form during periods of tectonic activity. The last phase of diapirism probably corresponds with the Delamerian Orogeny.
