Abstract
We propose a new algorithm for noncoherent sequencedetection of M-ary phase-shift-keying (M-PSK) symbolstransmitted over a block fading channel. The algorithm isof complexity O(T), where T is the sequence length, andis therefore computationally superior to existing maximumlikelihood(ML) detectors of complexity O(T logT). Ourdetector is based on a new approximation we propose to thenoncoherent ML function. We show that by using this closeapproximation, the detection problem reduces to a nearestlattice point problem for the lattice A∗n , from which we deriveour O(T) approach. Simulation results are provided thatshow the difference in bit error rate is negligibly small for awide range of signal-to-noise ratios.
