dc.description.abstractAortic stenosis is characterized by accelerated aortic valve calcification, but the pathogenesis of this process is poorly understood. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential impact of nitric oxide supplementation on valve matrix calcification in a tissue culture model, and the interaction between superoxide anion release and the process. Data from the study suggest that superoxide anion release, induced by transforming growth factor beta 1 contributes to calcific formation and that nitric oxide can limit this process.en
