The purpose of this study is to shed light on an area of Human Resource practice which to date has been relatively unclear in the Human Resource literature: Human Resource Management in the context of Human Service Organisations. The study aims to make a contribution to the theory and practice of HRM from the standpoints of three HR practitioners, who portray their FIR discourses and practices in the form of extended case study narratives. The findings suggest that current discourses of HRM can be considerably extended and enriched through the discourses-in-action of individual practitioners. Two RR discourses in particular emerge from the narratives: 'Change through emotional work', and 'Change through political work'. It is hoped that the study will be the catalyst and inspiration for others in this rewarding field.
