Abstract
The gallery is an engaging high-fidelity virtual experience. 'Illustrated and written by' is a group exhibition of double-blin peer-reviewed non-traditional research outcomes that seeks to explore and investigate the role of Illustration in the contemporary landscape of practice-based, practice-led and speculative research. Bringing together a global network of scholars – diverse views and work are exhibited together in a virtual and immersive browser based gallery for viewing. This exhibition enables virtual galleries and spaces in which digital collaboration and exhibition can be used to showcase non-traditional work. This speaks to the future potential for peer-review of non-traditional works that embody creative practitioners approaches to both individual research , and research with collaborative partners. It also introduced an esteemed editorial panel that oversaw the process, three Professors from highly regarded institutions. It invited international participants to respond to two Australian University 'non-traditional' (NTRO) research policies. Peer-reviewers, curators and editorial panel evaluated work based on the research statement structures encouraged in the policies. The submission under review should be well developed visually (appropriate use of aesthetics or non-aesthetics, purpose and quality of design principles, iconography, visual syntax, drawing and picture construction) and supported textually (1000-word research statement) in a manner that marks an original contribution to the field. The accompanying research statement must cover three critical areas Research Background, Research Contribution/Innovation, Research Significance (NTRO Policy UoN 2021; NTRO Policy UniSA 2023).
