This study utilised a quantitative research approach to empirically test the strength of the relationships between influential factors and the re-participation intentions of volunteer tourists towards seven important forms of volunteer programmes. Using Chinese volunteer tourists as the sample group, the study found that attitude towards the programme and the satisfaction towards the previous experience have consistently been the most important factors, but values, socio-demographic characteristics and previous experience factors selectively influenced certain intentions. The study theoretically testified seven models to understand the complexity of re-participation intentions among volunteer tourists. While new scales and measurements for all factors are expected to be applicable for future studies, the current findings can also assist the management of volunteer tourism.
