Abstract
Job Embeddedness Theory has provided a new way of understanding the factors underlyingemployee retention and employee turnover. In recent years, Mitchell, Holtom, Lee, Sablynskiand Erez's (2001) initial specification of a job embeddedness measure has been supplementedby three smaller measures. This paper tests the validity of these scales based on a sample ofpersonal care workers (N=153). All of the new measures demonstrated a statistically significantrelationship with the 2001 scale although the correlations varied significantly (.5 to .9). Themeasures were found to collect data relating to the same latent variables as the long-formsurvey. Finally, each of the measures predicted turnover intention.
