Abstract
This report was prepared as part of a four year Future Fellowship research program ‘Prospects for decent work and gender equality in frontline care’ which critically examines regulatory strategies to improve the quality of jobs held by frontline care workers. The research program focuses in particular on frontline care work undertaken in non-professional care occupations such as disability support, personal care and home care workers both in institutions and in clients' homes.
This report presents the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics on people working as child carers (ANZSCO occupation group 4211). This occupational group includes people who provide care and supervision for children in residential homes and non-residential childcare centres. This occupation has subgroups including child care worker (421111), family day care worker (421112), nanny (421113) and out of school hours care worker (421114)
