Abstract
This thesis aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the effects of 20 pesticides on soil microbial community structure and functions in three contrasting soils using high-throughput analyses. Lab-to-field validation of the laboratory results is also being performed with selected pesticides in a selected soil. Our findings showed that the effect of pesticides is influenced by both soil and pesticide properties. The application of pesticides affected the soil microbial structure and the functionally of important microbial groups involved in nitrogen and carbon cycles. The pesticide effects were more pronounced in the field following repeated applications compared to the laboratory experiment. Overall, this thesis offers novel insights into the assessment of pesticide toxicity, suggesting that pesticide applications may influence soil health and microbial functionalities.
