Abstract

The overall aim of this research was to evaluate the capability of RS methods to map perennial arid shrubs and trees using high-spatial resolution satellite imagery. The research focused on arid lands in the Meknes-Tafilalet region in north central Morocco which incorporated a mixture of agricultural lands and open shrub land used for grazing. The study site enveloped the lands surrounding the villages of Itzer and Ait Oufella, which has experienced land degradation due to overgrazing and unpredictable climatic conditions.
