Abstract
The Adelaide Jubilee International Exhibition opened in June 1887 with all the pomp and ceremony befitting the double jubilee celebrations of fifty years of the colony of South Australia and of the reign of the British monarch, Queen Victoria. The grand, domed, purpose-built Jubilee Exhibition Building stood in expansive grounds that lay adjacent to the University of Adelaide on North Terrace and stretched northwards to the River Torrens and eastwards to Frame Road. It shone as the latest addition to the city's developing cultural boulevard.
