Abstract
Quantum Dots (QDs) are semiconducting nanocrystals whose confined electrons allow for a certain degree of 'tuning' for their optical and electrical properties. Chalcopyrite copper indium disuphide (CIS) QDs have been of recent interest due to being cadmium and lead free. Although publications on CIS QDs are becoming more common, majorities of the synthesis contain long chained insulating ligands, which are only soluble in non-polar solvents. For the first time, we present a controllable cation exchange for water soluble, tunable CIS QDs. Here we also show the partial displacement of indium for zinc, which has shown to provide the QDs with unique optical properties.
