Abstract

Today’s converged networks are increasingly based on MPLS technology. To provide reliable carrier-grade service, MPLS-based recovery procedures must be able to quickly address any link or node failure. Current standardized MPLS fast recovery mechanisms cannot cope with egress node failure. We present a dual plane core network architecture, a path naming convention and a simple recovery mechanism that together can remove that fundamental limitation.
